Scholarships

Every year the SGT Ryan E. Doltz Memorial Foundation accepts applications for incoming and current college or technical school applicants. Unlike many scholarships, ours is not a merit based scholarship per se. For those of you familiar with Ryan, you know he was a person gifted with noble and honorable traits that are needed in our world today. Rather than basing our selection on people who have good grades, we focus more on the person and the qualities they exhibit. A desire to serve others, grit, determination, and honor were qualities that Ryan possessed and therefore those are the qualities we look for when evaluating applicants for the SGT Ryan E. Doltz Scholarship. If you care deeply about your friends, go the extra mile to accomplish the mission, or never give up in the face of adversity, you are a good candidate for the scholarship, regardless of your grades.

Scholarships are selected each year for graduates of any high school in Morris County, NJ, or any member or dependent of the New Jersey National Guard. Additionally, each year a scholarship is awarded to a cadet at the Virginia Military Institute in Ryan’s name.

Morris County, NJ

Each year to continue the memory of Ryan and all he stood for, the SGT Ryan E. Doltz Memorial Foundation provides a scholarship to an incoming freshman who exhibits the qualities of Ryan Doltz. Any student planning to attend a 4-year college after graduating from a high school in Morris County, NJ, and who is a member of their high school band is eligible to apply. Preference is given to those students who have volunteered, served or intend to serve in either the Military or First Responders professions.

NJ National Guard

Each year to support those who sacrifice for our freedoms, the SGT Ryan E. Doltz Memorial Foundation provides a scholarship to either a member of the NJ National Guard or a dependent of a Guard member who will be continuing their education at a college or technical school.
